Safety Requirements

Hello! I'm a beginner jewelry maker currently focused on sterling silver/ copper wire wrapped jewelry. This is mostly just a hobby, but I'd eventually like to make enough pieces to sell in local crafts fairs or potentially online. I'm wondering what kind of safety requirements need to be met to do this? For example, I know there are certain regulations regarding lead content in adult/children's jewelry that need to be met. As a beginning artist, how does one show that I'm using safe materials?…See More

Hey Catherine
For us out of town and out of province members coming to the AGM isn't really an option. How do we get involved...thanks for help. Have done some interviews for magazine but wondering if there is a way to address participation for members at large. Thanks!

Yes, of course I understand. It is certainly our intention to include enamelists from across Canada - I am hoping to get everyone interested to join the Enamel Group on MAG. For more detailed discussions perhaps we can use Skype.

Nevertheless - I should make it clear that this is not a MAG event - it is being organsised independently. MAG supports what we are doing - but in name only ;-) At the moment "we" is myself, David Hustler (former president of Enamel Arts Canada/Emaux Canada and Gabrielle Castonguay.

It is also our intention to try to use the web creatively. I have opened a wordpress blog, and I'd like to use it for input - e.g. everyone whparticipating in the exhibition could write a little bit about their process and perhaps post process pictures, or videos if you have them. Or any thoughts about enameling that anyone feels like sharing ;-)

The first order of business is putting out the call for entry, which I would like to co-incide with the launch of TIJF. I realise everything will be a little Toronto centric, since that it where it is happening, but I will be making regular reports, and letting you know if there are ways you can assist. We'd always be happy to have input.

Here is the venue:

Please let me know if there are any ideas that you have, or tasks you'd like to take on (I am also launching a Facebook page which someone might like to take care of)

I'll keep you posted!

Catherine

PS Please pass the word on to any enamelists you might know.
