Now that you’ve joined the Metal Arts Guild of Canada network and you’ve added great photos of your work, commented on a few member blogs, photos, or forum questions what else can you do? Why not join a group and develop your community even further.
Groups allow you to join with others who have the same interests as you - our most popular include:
You can find a Group from the main page of the website (just scroll down a little until you see the section that lists our Groups). Groups are also listed under the Community Tab, along with Forums, Events, and Blogs. Once you find an interesting group, click on its title. If the Group is public, meaning anyone can join, you can find a link to join it on the top right of the Group’s Page. If the owner of the Group has made it private you can apply to join from the same page. The owner/administrator will have to approve you.
If you would like to create your own Group please do! From the Groups section on the Main Page just click on the link add a group. This will open up a page for you to fill in your Group’s information. Add a descriptive name and an image that is roughly square in size (the default image is the MAGc group photo), write an interesting description so that members can get a feel for what your Group is all about. If you are creating a Group for an organization that has its own website you can add it here as well.
Choose the Features you want your Group to have including:
These Features are available on the right hand side of the creation page. Choose the Privacy Level for your group now ***BE AWARE*** you cannot change the Privacy once you have set it so think whether you want to approve everyone who would like to join or you are willing for the Group to be totally open. Decide whether you want members of your Group to be able to send messages to the entire Group and then click “ADD GROUP”.
You can always edit the Group’s Features later on (Except the Privacy Option) to update your group, go to the group's page and locate the "Admin Options" section. To change anything about your group, click the "Edit Group" link. You can promote members of your Group to administrator level as well.
In order for your Group to be successful you need to pay attention to it! Add links, embed videos or images. Add content about your region or topic of interest, ask questions and invite members to comment. If someone joins, send them a welcome message. Your Group will only grow and members will only participate if they feel involved.
Why not create a Group for your region of Canada? You can showcase the work of member, have people list their favourite suppliers and galleries. And create a tight community for your province/territory!
How about a Group that speaks to a particular technique?
The possibilities are endless, and remember - the MAGc site can list quite high in search engines, sometimes higher than an artist's personal website! You can reach many people here if you put the effort in!
Having an issue with Groups? Click on the "report an issue" link on the bottom of any page and we'll help you as much as we can!
