Don Stuart

As one of Canada’s leading gold/silversmiths, Donald Stuart has earned an international reputation for his jewellery and hollowware. During his celebrated career, Stuart has participated in countless exhibitions and many one-man shows. His work is found in national, international, public, corporate, and private collections. He is constantly in demand to give lectures and workshops across North America and beyond.
A native of Ontario, Don graduated the Ontario College of Art and Design. He spent three years developing and initiating the internationally acclaimed Pangnirtung Weaving Studio on Baffin Island which today successfully thrives and is the largest hand weaving studio in Canada. This environment is the source of inspiration for many of his designs.
He taught at Georgian College, Barrie where his passion for excellence resulted in many national and international honours for his students who now are making their own impact and contributions to Canada.
Believing strongly that it is important to give back to the community, for over 35 years Don has been a very dedicated volunteer serving as a director of various provincial, national and international arts organizations. He served as President with the Ontario Crafts Council and the Society of North American Goldsmiths. With the Canadian Executive Service Organization he has become an ‘ambassador’ on assignments with Canadian native groups and with a variety of jewellery and craft industry related projects in Africa, Asia and Latin America.
In recognition of his artistry and contributions, he has been honoured with a number of significant awards including the Order of Ontario and the Order of Canada and membership in the Royal Canadian Academy of Arts.
