Safety Requirements

Hello! I'm a beginner jewelry maker currently focused on sterling silver/ copper wire wrapped jewelry. This is mostly just a hobby, but I'd eventually like to make enough pieces to sell in local crafts fairs or potentially online. I'm wondering what kind of safety requirements need to be met to do this? For example, I know there are certain regulations regarding lead content in adult/children's jewelry that need to be met. Tell us about your education.
I have just graduated with a BFA from the Alberta College of Art + Design, Jewellery + Metals Program, and taught sand casting workshops at ACAD in the 2012-2013 school year, and will continue in the 2013-2014 school year.
Share some of your career highlights or goals.
I am now on Faculty at the Albert College of Art + Design, teaching Extended Studies classes on jewellery, specifically sand casting.

I also work for Coronado Instruments Ltd. where I repair surgical instruments for hospitals in Alberta.

I had the honor to take part in the Canadian Space Society show; Revolutions: The Inexorable Evolution of Art at the Endeavor Arts Gallery in Calgary from September 12 - October 12 2013.

I participated in a show at the Alberta Craft Council; SHIFT: A Transformative State of Mind. Located in the ACC Feature Gallery from July 14 - September 29 2012.

I had the fortune to spend the summer of 2012 working with with renowned goldsmith and educator Orland Larson.

I aspire to become a professional metal craftsmen, dealing with jewellery, silversmithing, blacksmithing, and lapidary.

Biography

Dylan Eddy was born in Cleveland Heights, Ohio, USA. He came to Calgary in 2007 to attend the Alberta College of Art + Design majoring in Jewellery + Metals, and in 2012 he received his BFA. In 2011 Dylan furthered his knowledge by attended workshops at the Touchstone Center of Craft where he studied blacksmithing, and in 2012 when he spent the summer working with master goldsmith and educator Orland Larson. Dylan has participated in exhibitions across Canada. Some exhibitions of note include; in 2011, where he took part in the student exhibition with the Medallic Art Society of Canada, and in 2012, he took part in a group show at the Alberta Craft Council entitled Shift: A Transformative State of Mind, as well as the ACAD Grad Show. And in 2013 Dylan took part in the Canadian Space Society show Revolutions: The Inexorable Evolution of Art  at the Endeavor Arts Gallery in Calgary. Currently Dylan works at Coronado Instruments Ltd. where he repairs surgical tools, while also teaching Extended Studies workshops at ACAD in the Jewellery + Metals area.
