Color on Metal: 50 Exceptional Works from Jewelers and Metal Artists by Tim McCreight and Nicole Bsullak
Hi Jan, I will be attending SNAG this week, I hope to see you and catch up with what's happening in the Vancouver metal arts scene. It would be great to meet other BC artists. (My hair is straight, blond and chin length).
Thank you for the friend request, I'm rather new to the MAG venue. I've known of your work for some years, it's beautiful and compelling. I think you first came onto my radar with the Lark books, and I saw some of your gorgeous work at Facere (spelling without accents, it's easier!) I heard from Karin Marita that you live and work on Salt Spring. I've just moved into a gallery collective called JewellerBau and our opening will be around June 18th, if you were interested in a sojourn to the city, it would be great to meet you.
Well I must get going with my day.
All the best,
I get my china paint from another local supplier - he mixed it up with a special oil that he thought I would like (and I do!) but I will mix it myself next time as he made too much and now it's all caked at the bottom :-(
But the stuff from Thompson is different. It is not ground as finely...I have tried it in several mediums and it always ends up being slushy...
Others have recommended Rynne - I will have to try them. One of my issues us that when I started painting I had a really opaque white that I liked using to do highlights at the very end. I'd had it for donkey's years and the company I bought it from had gone out of business...so I want to try a bunch of white to see what I might use as a substitute...
Thanks for tips! I will be getting back to painting soon...
Wow - that's quite the combination! I have just discovered china paint and grisaille, and I am hooked. But I got some enamel paints from Thompson and was not very happy with them - it was more like moving slush around than painting...
also been mixing a little graphite and china paint on black for some nice steely effects - but have yet to find a metallic silver paint that is as shiny as the gold. Thompson's "Bright Palladium" is more like gun metal grey...
Do you know about "Grains of Glass"? It's a social networking site for enamelists: http://grainsofglass.ning.com/
As you may know we are featuring BC artists on the website this month - please consider uploading some photos we can feature them! We would also appreciate information on your favorite Galleries and suppliers so that we can add them to the resources section.
Also, on a more personal note, I'd like to ask if you know of any enameling classes in BC? I am also an enamelist and know how hard it is to get good info! I am trying to list classes across Canada on my website www.emporiumvitreum.ca
