Safety Requirements

Hello! I'm a beginner jewelry maker currently focused on sterling silver/ copper wire wrapped jewelry. This is mostly just a hobby, but I'd eventually like to make enough pieces to sell in local crafts fairs or potentially online. I'm wondering what kind of safety requirements need to be met to do this? For example, I know there are certain regulations regarding lead content in adult/children's jewelry that need to be met. As a beginning artist, how does one show that I'm using safe materials?…See More

I have been teaching in the Jewellery Art and Design program at Vancouver Community College since September 2013, and am loving it!
I have been blessed with some amazing experiences: apprenticeship in Germany, residency in Finland, scholarships to Jewellery Arts Institute in New York and Mendocino Art Center in California, one year of the MFA program at NSCAD (which I had to take a leave from to take the position at VCC), and now inspiring, and being inspired by, a new generation of metal artists.

Spaces available in new Jewellery/ Art studio in Vancouver

Hello Friends,

I am about to sign a lease on a studio, and am looking for 2 really great long-term studio mates for February 1! It's suitable for other jewellers or other artists who don't need a huge space.
The space is a 600 square foot suite of offices on the second floor of a 2-storey building. The common area will have some shared jewellery equipment (polishing machine, rolling mill, and vise), as well as…

Wunderbar! Bis dann!!

I've never been to a SNAG conference , so I'm kind of pumped ... Just have a big order to finish before I go, so I will arrive exhausted for sure, but it'll be good to get together with people who have the same priorities. Looking forward to meeting you.

Hi there, Karina.

Cool stuff! I see you went to Germany; that's where I'm from! Alas, I live on the East Coast of Canada now. I'll be coming up to Vancouver for a day after the SNAG conference in Seattle, and would like to check out a few possible galleries. Do you know of any? Any pointersa would be much appreciated!

Thanks,

Dorothée Rosen, Halifax
