Safety Requirements

Hello! I'm a beginner jewelry maker currently focused on sterling silver/ copper wire wrapped jewelry. This is mostly just a hobby, but I'd eventually like to make enough pieces to sell in local crafts fairs or potentially online. I'm wondering what kind of safety requirements need to be met to do this? For example, I know there are certain regulations regarding lead content in adult/children's jewelry that need to be met. As a beginning artist, how does one show that I'm using safe materials?…See More

Tell us about your education.
I am a goldsmith working in precious materials using basic tools and traditional fabrication techniques. My design aesthetic is minimalist. My studio approach is minimalist as well. I prefer to work as directly as possible in the transformation of raw material into finished object. My philosophical perspective is that skill with tool and fluency with material are the fundamental catalyst for creative expression.

In addition to maintaining a studio practice I present workshops and classes on applied technique and professional development.

1970-1985 - self taught goldsmith and jewelry maker.
1986-1994 - continuing education at Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts, San Francisco, specialization in advanced goldsmithing and professional development.
1973 to present - active as professional goldsmith, studio jewelry artist, and consultant in fine jewelry industry.
1985 to present - active as professional goldsmith, studio jewelry artist, educator, writer, and consultant.

Hi Michael
Thank you for the request. You're work is beautiful, I'm not much of a gem kinda girl but the "something for a rainy day" struck a cord. I love double rings and I'm sick to death of the rain in Vancouver! You're studio is spectacular!
