Safety Requirements

Hello! I'm a beginner jewelry maker currently focused on sterling silver/ copper wire wrapped jewelry. This is mostly just a hobby, but I'd eventually like to make enough pieces to sell in local crafts fairs or potentially online. I'm wondering what kind of safety requirements need to be met to do this? For example, I know there are certain regulations regarding lead content in adult/children's jewelry that need to be met. As a beginning artist, how does one show that I'm using safe materials?…See More

"Hi nancy, So as far as I know, it is against Toronto fire regulation code to store and/or operate a gas torch inside a residential building. The space must be rated as "light industrial" to make it legal and then it needs to be re-insured…"

Torch at home studio in rented apartment, has anyone done this and encountered problems with their landlord

I have been working from home for a while now, set up to do both silversmithing and lampworking. I have a propane tank outside which I run inside to do my work. My landlord has informed me that he is uncomfortable with this and that we need to look into fire coding, laws, etc...I may be shut down but was wondering if anyone has encountered this and had any success in alleviating concerns? So far I have a note into the Office of the Fire Marshall but any insight would be greatly appreciated.NancySee More

"I actually just saw some copper sheet at Lacy's which is Queen and Church (55 Queen St. E). Not sure what the pricing is or what the thickenesses are, but they may be worth a call. Nancy"
