Hey there!I'm a pretty new silver smith! I have just started up a little work bench of my own and I bought the EZ torch. It has been working really well the last few months, but this week the flame has started to surge and sputter. Tonight I was just about to anneal a piece of silver and I went to light the torch, It made a fire ball and the flames fell back running down the handle, I turned off both knobs but the flame didn't go out until I blew it out! so after I was sure the flame was out I…See More

Tell us about your education.
My education in welding started in 1989 when I took my first welding class through the Skills Exchange at the Danforth Technical School in Toronto, ON. Upon moving to Kincardine, ON the following year I continued my welding interests by attending night classes offered through the Blue Water District Board of Education.
Since then I have opened up my own studio in Owen Sound, ON. West Rock Art Metal is a magnet for my scrap metal collection. I scour surrounding landfill sites, farm implement supply dealers, free ads on Kijiji and word of mouth to fulfil my need for raw materials. All of my pieces are created with the reclaimed metals I find while some are accented by one of a kind pieces of stained glass or recycled fused glass created by Virginia Smith.
I like to keep the integrity of the original metal so people can recognize the components but see the transformation of pieces of metal into whimsical characters/animals with individual personalities. Many elements move; adding a feeling of life . My sons accompany me and we dig through the collection of rusted tools and parts until an idea springs to mind and pieces are put together using various tools such as Oxy Acetylene, Mig, Tig & Arc welders as well as a plasma cutter.
