Safety Requirements

Hello! I'm a beginner jewelry maker currently focused on sterling silver/ copper wire wrapped jewelry. This is mostly just a hobby, but I'd eventually like to make enough pieces to sell in local crafts fairs or potentially online. I'm wondering what kind of safety requirements need to be met to do this? For example, I know there are certain regulations regarding lead content in adult/children's jewelry that need to be met. As a beginning artist, how does one show that I'm using safe materials?…See More

SIX SPOTTED ORB WEAVER SPIDER ("Issue Forth")
Sterling silver, pearls, 14k gold
8"l x 8"w x 3.25"h

Elizabeth Goluch creates the most beautiful insects with metal.  While most of us would recoil at the thought of giant cicadas or cockroaches Elizabeth transforms them into gleaming, intricate sculptures of silver, copper and gold. My own childhood fear of spiders (my brother once threw one on my face) is eased by the tenderness of the sculpture "Issue Forth".

In her own words "The works reflect the intricacy, the complexity and the order inherent in nature. I relish the visible, yet can imagine much more; which gives rise to the construction of secret spaces containing their treasure that I create within each piece. The decorative details reveal another layer of information, evoking elements of insect life, lore and environment."

Goluch has won numerous awards from the Metal Arts Guild of Nova Scotia as well as the Frank Phillips Award for excellence in craftmanship and has exhibited in Canada, the USA, South Korea, and the Czech Republic.
